I find that yoga, for me, is a chance to get to know my body.  What my body is capable of and one what areas to work to keep limber and pain free.  I am expecially pleased with the instruction about the positioning of the body and the insightful information provided about how the body is really a machine in which all parts play an equal part.  I have learned how to improve my posture, what postures I can do to relieve shoulder, hip and lower back pain.  How certain poses relax the body, while others awaken the body.  As each year passes, I feel the benefits of yoga more and more.  I am convinced there isn't anyone who wouldn't benefit from the instruction I have received in the classes at the studio.

 

My wife started going to class about six months before I started going.  She would come home and demonstrate some of the poses she learned and then talk me into trying some of the positions.  I quickly realized the ignorance in my previous notions about yoga and could see the benefits that could be derived.  It seemed like a good idea and something we could experience together.  Once I started attending the group classes it was easy to see the benefits of increased flexibility and strength.  The more subtle lessons learned over time involve knowing the human body and most importantly coming to know your own body.  Now when I have pain instead of reaching for aspirin, I use postures learned in yoga class to correct the cause of the pain.
